Determining Eyeglass Frame Size by FramesDirect.com

If you already have a pair that fits you well, the frame measurements are written on the inside arm of the frame. If you don't see the measurements written on the inside arm of the frame, they are sometimes written on or just behind the nose bridge. So what do these numbers mean? In this example, there are several numbers and letters written on the inside of the frame. The numbers we're looking for are eye size, bridge size and temple length. Eye size is the horizontal width of the lens area in millimeters. Bridge size is the distance between the two optical lenses, also measured horizontally in millimeters. These two numbers are usually very close together and are separated by a box or a slash. The temple length, or length of the arm piece, is a three-digit number, usually between one hundred thirty to one hundred sixty five millimeters. To determine which size is most suitable for you, the question I would ask you is what do you think the overall width of your face is? Is it small, medium or large? Answer that question and you will know exactly the right size frame size to pick. We consider small eye sizes to be from forty to about forty eight millimeters. Medium eye sizes can range from about forty nine to fifty four millimeters. Large eye sizes are from about fifty five to fifty eight millimeters. Extra large, anything above fifty eight.
