Inspired by none other than our favorite hero David Hasselhoff, a not-so-hot lifeguard saves a damsel in distress drowning in a sea of glasses. Brand New School directs, and flexes its character animation muscles to populate a California beach with oddball characters. While the first spot we did for D&A was dark and dingy (see D&A "The Factory"), this one is bright and jolly. That is, until we are confronted with a woman drowning in the middle of the ocean. Instead of creating a full CG spot, we pursued the idea of putting our CG characters in a live action environment. While we used real props in the scene (umbrellas, towels, beach chairs, a boombox, etc), the ocean is composed of thousands of CG glasses. Shot at Point Dume where Baywatch was frequently shot, the spot promises to be just as great as the inspiration. D&A introduces a computer designed interface to help customers choose glasses more easily despite the overwhelming possibility of choices. The computer screen shows images of the customer fitted with four different pairs of glasses for comparison.
